History

Stevenson McGregor was established in 1999 by long-time colleagues Kevin Stevenson and Warren McGregor. The firm quickly established itself as a high quality provider of financial reporting advice and training with an extensive national and international clientele.

Kevin and Warren were recruited to the newly established International Accounting Standards Board in 2001/2002. Kevin as the Director of Technical Activities and Warren as an inaugural board member. Kevin returned to Australia in 2005 and re-joined PwC in their Global Capital Markets Group. He then completed a 5-year term to June 2014 as Chairman of the Australian Accounting Standards Board. Warren served the maximum two terms with the IASB, returning to Australia in 2012, playing pivotal roles in IASB projects such as leases and insurance and acting as Deputy Chairman. Following several requests for their services, Kevin and Warren recommenced the business of Stevenson McGregor in 2015.

Both Kevin and Warren are chartered accountants and certified practising accountants and have many years of experience both in the development of accounting standards nationally and internationally and in their application in practice. Both are inductees into the Australian Accounting Hall of Fame. Further biographical information about the partners can be found in the CV section of this website.

Business model

Clients are serviced by both Kevin and Warren, with typically one or other taking the lead role and the other acting in a reviewing capacity. Their work is limited to providing advice and training on financial reporting matters; they do not offer auditing, tax or business consulting services. They bill on a time-incurred basis only.

Kevin and Warren combine their deep technical knowledge and extensive practical experience with an independent perspective and a commercially focussed and accessible style. Clients are provided with high quality objective advice delivered in a readily understandable form and on a timely basis. Clients

The firm’s clients, domestic and international, have included reporting entities in the private and public sectors (including for-profit and not-for-profit entities), auditors (Big 4 and other), financial reporting regulators, accounting standard setting bodies and governmental agencies.
